After years of shielding their children from the spotlight, Richard Gere and Alejandra Silva surprised fans by sharing a rare glimpse of their sons with the world.
Richard Gere, 76, and his wife Alejandra Silva have largely kept their family life private since marrying in 2018. The couple share sons Alexander, 7, and James, 6, while Gere is also father to 26-year-old son Homer from his previous marriage to Carey Lowell and stepfather to Silva’s 11-year-old son Albert.
Although the Pretty Woman star occasionally speaks about fatherhood in interviews, the couple rarely share photos of their younger children publicly.
Move to Spain
In recent years, the family made another major life change when they relocated to Spain, Silva’s home country.
Before the move, the pair sold their Connecticut estate for $10.75 million in October 2024 as they prepared for life in Madrid.
“My wife is so happy in Spain, so that’s the best part of that,” the star of American Gigolo told People in November 2025. “She has wonderful family, wonderful friends.”
“Spanish culture, there’s a very open joy about it,” he continued, explaining that people there are “very warm and very open and a lot less stressed than what you find here in the U.S.”
Rare glimpse of young sons
That quieter life in Spain now appears to include more relaxed family moments – something Silva, 43, unexpectedly shared with the public during her Mother’s Day tribute.
On May 10, the Spanish publicist and activist offered fans a rare look inside the family’s life in Spain while also showing how much their children have grown away from the Hollywood spotlight.
Among the photos posted on Mother’s Day, one image showed Gere standing beside sons Alexander and James, along with Albert, as they formed heart shapes with their hands for the camera.
Other pictures captured Albert spending time with his younger brothers while Gere watched nearby, along with sweet snapshots of the boys collecting flowers in the rain.
Honors ‘every mother’ in post
Silva paired the images with a heartfelt message honoring mothers and women everywhere.
“Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers, women, grandmothers, sisters, daughters, and friends who hold the world together in ways that are often invisible,” she started in the lengthy post.
“We raise our children, but we also help raise the men and women of the future. We teach love, respect, compassion, courage, and tenderness – not only with words, but with the way we live,” she wrote.
“Today I want to honor every mother who gives everything, often quietly. Every woman who has kept going. Every mother who has sacrificed, healed, protected, cried, laughed, and loved with her whole heart.”
‘To all the powerful women’
Silva also shared a message directed toward the next generation.
“May we recognize the power of mothers more. May we support each other more. May we teach our sons to honor women, and our daughters to never forget their own strength,” she continued.
“To all the powerful women, and to all the mothers creating a better world – I see you, I honor you, and I celebrate you. Happy Mother’s Day 2026 – to everyone walking this journey with me, thank you.”
Gere later responded in the comments of her Instagram post with a simple but affectionate message: “We Love You.”
Silva replied, “Truly grateful for our wonderful family.”
