Christine Armstrong died in a terrifying shark attack – and her husband has a chilling theory about how the tragedy unfolded.
The horrifying incident occurred on April 3, 2014. Christine Armstrong, 63, set out with her regular swim group from Tathra Wharf to Tathra Beach.
A long-time member of the Tathra Surf Club, Christine was known as a strong and dedicated swimmer. That day, however, she reportedly told the group she wasn’t feeling well and decided to head back alone, according to The Mirror.
Moments later, members of the group spotted a fin in the water and turned back toward shore. They assumed Christine had made it back safely. She had not.

The following day, Christine’s goggles, swim cap, and some remains were found washed ashore. Her body was never recovered. Authorities believe she was consumed entirely by a large shark.
Her husband, Rob Armstrong – who was swimming nearby at the time – later told Sky News he believed the same. “The shark was such a size and it’s consumed her basically completely, she wouldn’t have even known it happened,” he told reporters.
“Swimming brought her much joy”
After her death, Christine’s family released an emotional statement, describing her as “very loved by many people” and a “senior surf club trainer for many years.”
“She has been swimming at Tathra Beach for 14 years and was an experienced and committed member of the surf club,” her family said, according to VT.
“She was a senior surf club trainer for many years, and swimming brought her much joy and many friends.
“She will be sadly missed by all who loved her, especially by Rob, her husband of 44 years.”
