Eye-watering fee guests at Meghan Markle’s “girls’ weekend” have to pay for a selfie

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are in Australia on what some might call a “royal” tour. Meanwhile, the Duchess arranged a ‘girl’s retreat’ at a Sydney wellness retreat, promising ‘a girls’ weekend like no other. However, it’s been revealed that guests had to pay a hefty extra fee to take a selfie with Meghan.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, have arrived in Australia for their tour. While they aren’t royal anymore, some might see the trip as a “royal” one, although Harry and Meghan are doing it in a private matter, combining charitable causes with business ventures.

The couple has been up to many things during the trip, with one big event being Meghan’s “Her Best Life” initiative. Fans of Meghan’s got the chance to spend an intimate weekend in the Duchess’s company at a retreat in Sydney.

The website states, “Join us for an intimate luxury weekend by the ocean designed to bring women together for powerful conversations, relaxation, laughter and unforgettable experiences.”

“Set at the stunning InterContinental Coogee Beach, this exclusive retreat brings the Her Best Life community to life through inspiring speakers, meaningful connection and plenty of time to unwind and celebrate. The highlight of the weekend will be an in-person conversation with Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.”

The weekend included a gala dinner, meditation and yoga, sound healing, pool time, and more. However, many reacted to one thing. While the cost of the weekend was almost $2000, there were additional costs to consider.

One of those things was to secure a group photo with Meghan, which cost an additional $300.

After the photo op, Meghan is set to join podcaster Gemma O’Neill for a conversation in front of the 300 attendees.

“This is a strict no phones, no recording moment for the duration of the interview,” reads a leaked itinerary posted by the Daily Mail on April 13.

“We promise it’s worth it — this is about being fully present, soaking it all in, and it’s also a non-negotiable security requirement. Phones away, eyes up, and enjoy the magic!,” the itinerary continued, adding that there will be “a dedicated moment at the end where you can take out your phones and capture a photo of Gemma with Meghan, Duchess of Sussex on stage.’”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made millions following their drop-out from the Royal Family. Harry’s memoir, alongside their Netflix and Spotify contracts, has earned them millions; however, not everyone has been happy with them.

Branded “grifters”

A few years ago, Bill Simmons, then Spotify’s head of podcast innovation and monetization, lashed out against the Duke and Duchess, calling them “grifters.”

“I wish I had been involved in the ‘Meghan and Harry leave Spotify’ negotiation. The f***ing Grifters, that’s the podcast we should have launched with them,” Simmons said on theBill Simmons podcast.

“I have got to get drunk one night and tell the story of the Zoom I had with Harry to try and help him with a podcast idea. It’s one of my best stories … F*** them. The grifters.”

The fact that they have been labeled “grifters” reportedly haunts them. Speaking with The Sun in 2024, royal commentator Lee Cohen stated, “It all started to change through so many factors, and then you have executives in Hollywood calling them… ‘expletive’ grifters.”

“Now that (was) just broadcast everywhere, and social media created hashtags calling them ‘Harry and Meghan are grifters’ – what a terrible label to have,” he added.
