Mom wants daughter with rare birthmark to know she’s beautiful

Every person is born unique, and our differences make us beautiful. Mother Nicole Lucas Hall from Arkansas embraces this truth while raising her two children, Asher and Winry.

Nicole has made it her mission to show that perfection lies in imperfection, especially through her daughter Winry, who was born with a rare condition called congenital melanocytic nevi (CMN), a birthmark covering part of her face.

When Winry was born in February 2021, Nicole was shocked to see the mark.

Her pregnancy had been healthy, and she hadn’t expected anything unusual. Initially, she thought the dark patch on her daughter’s head was a bruise, but doctors quickly reassured her that Winry was healthy and that her vitals looked perfect. Once the initial fear subsided, Nicole focused on loving and protecting her baby.

CMN can appear as light or dark patches on the skin and vary greatly in size. While the condition can slightly increase the risk of developing skin cancer, it does not define a child’s beauty or worth. Nicole and her husband now use their platform to promote awareness and representation for children with visible differences. Nicole frequently shares her daughter’s photos and story online to inspire kindness and understanding.

She explains that many people have never seen a birthmark like Winry’s, and her openness helps parents teach their children that differences are natural and nothing to fear. Nicole’s biggest concern for the future isn’t medical—it’s the possibility of social challenges like bullying.

To protect Winry, her parents use sunscreen, hats, and regular dermatology checkups. Despite these precautions, Winry’s personality shines through. She’s described as joyful, talkative, and full of life.

Nicole hopes her daughter grows up knowing she’s beautiful just as she is—a reminder to everyone that our differences are what make us truly special.
