Scarlett Johansson says life is in ‘deficit’ despite earning $43,000,000 last year

Scarlett Johansson ranks among the world’s highest-paid actresses. Yet, despite great wealth, money isn’t always the answer. In a new interview, she described a “deficit” in her life.

Scarlett Johansson has a long and successful career in the film industry. The now 41-year-old two-time Academy Award-nominated actress has starred in countless films and recently made quite a bit of money as part of the Marvel franchise, starring as Black Widow.

According to Forbes, Scarlett Johansson earned $43 million in 2025 and was named the highest-paid actress of 2025. Moreover, according to Celebrity Net Worth, she has an astonishing net worth of $165 million.

Beyond her career, Johansson is currently married to Colin Jost, known for his work on Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update.” The couple exchanged vows in October 2020 and, in August 2021, welcomed their first son, Cosmo.

Life as a mom to a youngster can be quite challenging. And although Scarlett Johansson has more freedom considering her bank account, it isn’t always easy.

Speaking with CBS Sunday Morning, Johansson said there is a “deficit” in some areas of her life and that it’s impossible to find a good work-life balance.

“I think actually admitting that there is no work-life balance is the first step to kind of getting there in a way, because it’s not possible,” the actress told CBS’s Sunday Morning.

“There’s always something that is … there’s a deficit in some area, and I think you have to be … I learned to be more kind to myself. You can’t do all of these things all the time and so, you know … there’s just like … is it good enough?”

Moreover, Johansson discussed how she has changed her view of success after becoming a mother.

“Somebody once told me, ‘If you’re successful as a parent like 75% of the time, that’s good’ — if you’re doing 75% of it like right, then you’re winning, which is probably true.”

While Scarlett Johansson might be incredibly rich today, that wasn’t always the case. In fact, in a 2017 interview with Entertainment Tonight, she revealed her family of six was on welfare.

“We were living on welfare, we were on food stamps. My parents were raising four kids in a low-income household in Manhattan. So, it was a lot,” Scarlett Johansson said.
