Comedian almost dies in freak accident after being crushed by 600lb fridge

Laura Clery

Comedian and influencer Laura Clery is opening up about a terrifying accident she says nearly cost her life after a 600-pound refrigerator collapsed on top of her while she was home alone with her two children.

She described it as the “most terrifying night” of her life, explaining that she became trapped underneath the massive stainless steel appliance and feared she might lose consciousness before help arrived.

Clery said the accident happened while she was getting ready for bed at home last week.

In an Instagram post shared on May 21, the comedian revealed she had been pinned against a counter after the fridge suddenly tipped over.

“I was home alone getting ready for bed when my 600 pound fridge slammed into me and pinned me against the counter,” Clery wrote, according to LadBible. “I couldn’t move. Couldn’t breathe right. Was impossible to get off and I could feel myself losing consciousness.”

She continued: “My kids were in the house. I genuinely didn’t know if I was getting out of that alive.

“Thank God my phone was in my pocket and I was able to call 911.

“Thank god it didn’t fall on my kids. It took three firefighters to lift it off me. I’m still shaking.”

“This is the dumbest way anyone has ever died”

She later shared more details about the incident on Patreon, where she explained that moments before the accident, she had seen her son Alfie climbing near the wall-mounted fridge. After noticing it had slightly shifted, she tried to push it back into place herself.

“I thought I’d just nudge it in and move on with my day, like a woman who has control over her life,” Clery said. “The second I pushed it, it came down on me.”

While trapped beneath the appliance, she said one thought kept running through her head.

“This is the dumbest way anyone has ever died.”

Clery also described the pain as comparable to being in labor, saying in the comments section of her post that it felt like “when she was fully dilated and having contractions.”

“I remember being stuck under this massive 600 pound stainless steel fridge thinking, ‘If I don’t breathe, I’m going to lose consciousness,’” she explained. “If that happens, my kids are alone in the home with no one coming, I was meant to take them to school in the morning. Seriously…this could have been SO much worse.”

Didn’t break any bones

Despite the frightening accident, Clery said she escaped without any broken bones. She was taken to the hospital by firefighters and is now recovering at home, though she admitted she still feels “fragile.”

She also recalled how emotional the situation became for her children, saying her daughter Penelope cried while her son Alfie “ran outside, probably scared out of his mind.”

In a separate Instagram post, Clery praised the firefighters who rescued her, calling them “real life angels.”

“They got there so fast, broke through my garage door, and 3 of them pushed a 600 pound fridge off of me and got me safely to the trauma unit before things got worse,” she wrote.

“I keep thinking about how differently this could have gone and I just feel overwhelming gratitude,” Clery added. “No broken bones, my kids are okay and safe, I can walk…I’m so lucky!”

“Forever grateful”

She continued by thanking the emergency responders for staying calm throughout the chaos.

“They were calm, kind and just handled everything like absolute heroes!” she wrote. “And then right as one of them pushes the fridge off me, he goes, ‘Wait…I watch all of your videos!’”

“And they all start hyping me up,” she added jokingly. “Like sir…I am currently being flattened, but thank you. Forever grateful for these men.”
