Meghan Trainor is officially a mom of three — but instead of universal celebration, her baby announcement has sparked a heated online debate.
The All About That Bass singer and her husband, actor Daryl Sabara, revealed they welcomed a baby girl via surrogacy, sharing the joyful news on social media along with photos of their growing family. While many fans flooded the comments with congratulations, others zeroed in on one unexpected detail: the baby’s name.
A new Baby, a big moment
On January 21, 2026, Trainor announced that their daughter, Mikey Moon Trainor, was born on January 18. The couple, who already share two sons — Riley, 4, and Barry, 2 — are now a family of five.
In an emotional Instagram post, Trainor shared photos of her sons meeting their baby sister for the first time, along with intimate family moments. She also praised the woman who helped make it all possible.
“Jan 18th 2026. Our baby girl Mikey Moon Trainor has finally made it to the world thanks to our incredible, superwoman surrogate. We are forever grateful to all the doctors, nurses, and teams who made this dream possible.”
Why surrogacy
Trainor made it clear that surrogacy wasn’t a casual or cosmetic decision — it followed extensive medical advice.
“We had endless conversations with our doctors in this journey and this was the safest way for us to be able to continue growing our family. We are over the moon in love with this precious girl.”
She later reinforced that message amid backlash, saying:
“I want people to know that surrogacy is just another beautiful way to build a family.”
Big brothers had a say
The singer also shared a sweet detail that melted many hearts: Riley and Barry helped choose their sister’s middle name.
“Riley and Barry have been so excited, they even got to choose her middle name. We are going to enjoy our family time now, love you all.”

Fans split
While many followers praised the name as adorable and unique, others weren’t convinced.
One commenter wrote, “Why do they always give them names like that?”
Another joked, “Mikey Moon — sounds like a Disney character.”
Still, plenty of fans defended the choice, calling it “cute,” “sweet,” and “perfect for their family.”
Backlash turns ugly
Unfortunately, the criticism didn’t stop at the name. Some commenters attacked Trainor for using a surrogate at all.
“She didn’t want to ruin her new skinny body,” one wrote.
Another claimed, “Oz*mpic wouldn’t allow it.”
Others questioned why she appeared to be bonding physically with the baby, asking why she was “acting like she gave birth herself.”
Meghan speaks out
Trainor later addressed the criticism directly, explaining that surrogacy followed serious health struggles, including PTSD after her first child was rushed to the NICU and severe panic attacks following her second pregnancy.
“It wasn’t our first choice, but we had endless conversations with our doctors on this journey, and this was the safest way for us to be able to continue growing our family.”
She also pushed back against the stigma surrounding surrogacy:
“It’s not something to whisper about or judge. It’s rooted in trust, science, love, and teamwork. Every family’s journey looks different, and all of them are extremely valid.”

Trainor described their surrogate as “one of the most selfless, strong and loving people” she has ever met, emphasizing the deep bond they formed throughout the process.
Despite the noise online, the singer appears focused on what matters most: her family.
“We are over the moon in love with this precious girl.”
