Girl, 2, dies after falling in pond during family Christmas gathering

2-year-old Isobel Wallace died during a tragic accident at her family’s Christmas Day gathering. She fell into a pond just moments after she wandered away, and despite performing CPR, her life could not be saved. Now, her family has shared a statement.

The horrifying accident occurred on Christmas Day in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. 2-year-old Isobel Wallace had wandered away from the family’s gathering and was found in a pond and died. The little girl was described as the “happiest, smiliest, most adventorous & curious little girl,” who “lit up the ives of everyone.”

The child’s aunt, Abigail Maxwell, set up a GoFundMe page to help parents Tamara and Arron cover funeral expenses as well as create a memorial fairy garden for their late daughter.

“Aaron, Tamara, the whole family, and everyone who knows of Isobel… all of us are absolutely heartbroken. As you can imagine, this is the worst possible thing that could ever happen to parents, to lose their baby.. she was so happy, so loved & they were the best parents who gave her the most wonderful life,” Abigail wrote.

“It was Christmas, we were celebrating as a family. Our girls, two best friends, were surrounded by everyone playing with their new toys between the living room, kitchen and playroom… we couldn’t find her for a moment & in that moment, she’s gone in the garden & fell in the pond,” the contineud.

“A pond that was not there through choice but due to a house move, their forever home, which they were renovating. A pond that had a temporary fence around it, in a garden she would never have accessed by herself. A tragic accident.

The family did CPR until the ambulance arrived. Isobel was taken to the hospital, but she couldn’t be saved. Abigail wrote that she wants to “everything I can to take any pressure off for them,” referring to parents Arron and Tamara.

“Tamara is 25 weeks pregnant and they need all the emotional and psychological support following this tragedy, not to be on a waitlist, so they have the strength for Isobel’s baby brother. They also do not need the financial burden of her having to start work whilst grieving with a newborn baby,” Abigail Wallace wrote on GoFundMe.

Her mother breaks the silence

On December 28, Tamara Wallace shared a tribute to her late 2-year-old daughter on social media. She thanked her local community for the support and for showing “no [judgment] for the tragic accident.”

“Everyone who knows Isobel and us knows how gifted she was and that she lived more in her two years than some children did in a lifetime. We also want people to remember Isobel for the magic girl she was and the adventure and fire she had in her soul and how much light she brought, not for her sad passing,” Tamara wrote on Facebook.

“We will raise her baby brother the same way, and he will know he has a sister and that she is and will continue to be amazing,” the mother added. “… She will be Mummy and daddy’s Christmas angel she will ALWAYS be [a part] of us.”
