Quinton Aaron, the towering actor best known for his role as Michael Oher in the 2009 hit The Blind Side, has been placed on life support.
According to his wife, Aaron is fighting for his life after suffering a serious fall at his home.
The 41-year-old actor Quinton Aaron is best known for portraying former NFL star Michael Oher alongside Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side. When Aaron auditioned for the movie, he was balancing acting with a job as a security guard.
After trying out for the role, he handed over his contact info and even offered to work as a security guard on set if he didn’t get cast as Michael Oher.
The movie was a huge box office hit, earning $309 million on a $29 million budget. While critics had mixed opinions overall, Sandra Bullock’s performance was widely acclaimed, earning her the Academy Award for Best Actress.
After the success of The Blind Side, Aaron hasn’t landed many major roles, with his most recent credit coming in 2022.
The latest update
Now, troubling news has emerged about the actor’s health. The 41-year-old actor collapsed at his home after losing feeling in his legs while climbing stairs, prompting Margarita to rush him to the hospital, TMZ reported on January 26.
Doctors have since diagnosed him with a blood infection, though further testing is ongoing. While on life support, Quinton is reportedly partially breathing on his own, giving his family hope.
“He’s showing a lot of improvement. We all have faith in God that he will walk out of here fully recovered,” Margarita said, describing her husband as a “fighter.”
On Monday, an update on Quinton Aaron’s GoFundMe page shared:
”Quinton has opened his eyes and has some feeling in his foot! He is still on life support and going through tests. We are looking at quite a recovery time and will need a wheelchair when he is released while he goes through therapy to walk again. Thank you to all of you for your support and prayers.”
The page had previously confirmed that he was hospitalized and ”on life support,” calling the situation ”sudden, frightening, and overwhelming for his loved ones.”
This isn’t Quinton’s first health scare.
In March 2025, he was hospitalized with a fever and bloody cough, which doctors believed was Type A flu and pneumonia. He also faced serious respiratory issues in 2019, including a bronchitis flare-up, but fully recovered.
Quinton’s manager told TMZ that while the actor is receiving specialized care and communicating with his family, doctors are still determining the exact cause of his collapse. The family has requested privacy but expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and prayers from fans.
